Don’t let the FACTS ruin your presentation! [VIDEO]

Presentations that are full of FACTS can be downright boring. FACTS don’t allow you to emotionally connect with your audience — and if you can’t find and create that emotional connection, your presentation simply won’t be a success.

Here’s one simple question that will help you dig deeper to find that emotional connection (along with the confirmation from Nancy Duarte’s excellent book, “Resonate.“)

What steps do you take to make your presentations more interesting, engaging, and compelling? Please share in the comments below!

VIDEO TRANSCRIPT:

Have you ever sat through a presentation that was full of facts, full of information, and full of data, but was just plain BORING?

If you cannot find a way to emotionally connect with your audience, and make them understand why the information is relevant and meaningful to them, then all the facts in the world won’t make a difference. Now that’s something that I was reading about in this book, Resonate, by Nancy Duarte, also a presentation expert that I have been following, and I have deep respect for. And here, she writes a little something about facts that I would like to share with you.

“Facts are one type of content to collect, but they’re not the only type needed to create a successful presentation. You must strike a balance between analytical and emotional content. Stating fact after fact in an hour-long presentation doesn’t signal to the audience WHY these facts are important.

Staying flat and factual might work in a scientific report, but simply won’t work for the oral delivery of persuasive content.”

So I just want to reiterate one point…

WHY?

If you can’t state to your audience WHY this is relevant to them, WHY it’s meaningful, and WHY they should care, then you will not be able to create that emotional connection that is so needed in order to create and deliver a successful presentation.

Don’t let the facts ruin your presentation! Get clear on WHY your message is relevant, WHY is it meaningful, and WHY should your audience care, so that you could take those facts, and create an emotional connection with them.

I’m Suzannah Baum, and if you need any help getting clearer on your WHY, and how to make your facts work towards creating a successful presentation, then let’s get in touch.
